Mooncake Festival Activity

Happy Mooncake Festival!

We had a twoday celebration of the MidAutumn Festival or popularly known as Mooncake Festival. On September 21st, the kids learned about the legend of the festival. The teacher explained to the kids why we celebrate this day and they also watched a movie about the Mooncake Festival.
Everyone went to school wearing their favorite red clothes!

The next day was the day of having the real FUN!  We had our Mooncake Festival Activity.  First, the kids made their own beautiful and colorful Chinese lanterns.  They chose their own decorations to decorate their lanterns--they were so proud to hang them!
The kiddies made their own Chinese paper lanterns!
Afterwards, the most awaited part of our festival is the Mooncake dice game.  The kids were already excited to see all the nice and enticing prizes that we prepared for them..
Everyone took home mini Mooncakes to try! Yum!
Roll the dice~!
Our Little Crimsons having fun playing the dice game!

The teachers helped the kids play the dice game by holding the big bowl for them as they threw the six dice inside the bowl.  The kids were very excited to see the dice rolled and stopped.  Each kid was able to bring home various prizes. But our 3 Grand Prize Winners or “Chiong Guan” were Gaby of N2 and Yvonne and Jillian of N1.
 Congratulations!!!

House Culminating Activity

Little Harvard Academy "Our Home"

11th of September, 2015, Friday, Little Harvard Academy “literally” became a home to our Little Crimsons. The school rooms were converted to basic parts of a house. First, the play area became the GARAGE AND GARDEN and the hallway was our BATHROOM. The N1 and N2 classrooms became our KITCHEN/DINING ROOM and LIVING ROOM respectively. And lastly, our movement room was transformed into-- everyone’s favorite part of the house--- a huge BEDROOM!
Since it was a house simulation day, the kids and staff were asked to wear pajamas. Of course, who would wear uniforms at home, right? To start the day, a tutorial on how to properly brush the teeth was conducted by our very own school nurse, Nurse Nicole. She let the children watch videos of kids brushing their teeth then brought the children to the bathroom for personal tutorial. The kids hold their brushes and follow what Nurse Nicole asked them to do.
After that, everyone proceeded to the kitchen where our chefs, Teacher Grace and Teacher Kriszy were waiting. The teachers showed the kids some basic kitchen tools and some precautions while in the kitchen. All the kids were listening intently since the set up amazed them. The teachers cooked the meal of the day which was “Chicken Sopas.” The kids watched the teachers as they follow step by step the cooking procedures from the recipe. While waiting for the food, they were also entertained with a short story about the Three Little Pigs.
Since the food needed more time to be prepared, kids were asked to go to the Living Room. We had a sofa setup where the kids enjoyed sitting and jumping on it! They watched videos about the basic parts of a house as part of their review and a short film entitled “Home Sweet Home.” They all enjoyed watching since everything was animated. They also started watching the popular animated film by Pixar “Minions”. They were all well-behaved even though most of them have already seen the movie.
After almost an hour of watching and relaxing in the Living Room, at last our “Chicken Sopas” was ready and waiting to be served! We all went back to the Kitchen/Dining Room an the kids looked so excited for the meal! Based on what’s left in the casserole, they surely enjoyed and loved the food. Most of them even asked for second and third servings! :)

After a very tasty and satisfying meal, all kids were very full. Not long after, it’s already bed time! But before going to bed, they were asked to brush their teeth for real this time. Again, the kids were given their own toothbrush, toothpaste, and a cup of water. Everyone did an amazing job since they have remembered the proper way of brushing. They were really proud of their pearly white teeth. Afterwards, everyone went to the Bedroom where they watched a movie, relax, lie down, or slept. Then came the time to shut off the lights and everyone was asked to pretend to be asleep. This simulates a typical night time for the kids and that was how the day ended as well.
There is no doubt that each and every one enjoyed today’s activity. Another funfilled learning experience happened and the Little Crimsons went home wearing their biggest smiles. Indeed, it is a very fun and relaxing day for everyone. I would like to thank our dearest parents and guardians for your support and of course to my fellow staff for all the help.

Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa 2015

"Ating Alamin Kulturang Atin"

A beautiful day in such beautiful land! Last September 4, 2015, our Little Crimsons had their very first fashion show presentation for the Buwan ng Wika Celebration. As it is the pupils’ first time to celebrate and know the Philippine Culture, our theme for this year is “Ating Alamin Kulturang Atin”.

We are very proud to tell everyone that the Little Crimsons are mindful of what to do when they hear “Lupang Hinirang” our national anthem. Some of the pupils were even able to sing parts of the song while some helps their other classmates with the proper stance. It has been part of our routine for the whole month.

Little Crimsons were able to play some well-known Filipino street games like “Limborak“ and “Chinese Garter“. The kids really enjoyed playing them. Everyone was so excited about the game that they all want to crawl and jump over the ropes at the same time but still they know that they have to wait for their turn as this is what we practice in school. They were all eager at the first round of the games and treat it like a piece of cake but as they try the next levels, they’ll laugh and ask help from the adults. The challenge goes on as the adults go in sync to carry the kids over the ropes to get to the other side. Everyone went laughing.

Why “fashion show” you may ask? Well, it is simply because The Philippines has thousands of islands and through clothes, pupils can identify what a Filipino would look like. The pupils were assigned to wear costumes of the northern and southern part of the country. Some were wearing tribal and ethnic costumes and thus, it made them all get excited about the performance.

Lastly, the Little Crimsons danced “Kabataang Pinoy”. Well, they call it “Pinoy” and honestly, the kids were doing great during the practices. Even some of the kids that aren’t participating much were enticed dancing it. It was full of jumping and hand movements that the pupils picked themselves.

Ark Avilon Zoo 2015

Our First-ever Field Trip!

Last August 14, 2015 we had our first-ever field trip.  It was a fun-filled and jammed-pack day.  Almost all the children arrived either earlier or on time.  I guess they are all excited to go and visit the ARK AVILON ZOO!

Once we arrived in Ark Avilon Zoo, of course, our Little Crimsons didn’t waste any time. We were greeted by the friendly staff headed by Miss Joyce and Miss Hazel as our official tour guide and the TOUR BEGINS!!!

Once you step inside, as if you were really inside Noah’s Ark.  We were introduced to some familiar animals and not so familiar animals.  Some animals were inside the glass cage like the white tiger, lions, monkeys, fox, meerkat, penguins and many more.  One of the interesting creatures that we encountered was the Double Wattled Cassowary.  It was one of the largest birds in the world but the most dangerous one.

Another interesting feature of the zoo is that some animals were not in the cage.  You will see bearcat hanging on the tree.  We also have an up close and personal encounter with Tyson, the Burmese python.  Of course, the kids enjoyed touching the soft and feathery body of the cockatoo, parrots and toucans.  And the kids have a great time walking side by side with Mr. Tortoise.

But the highlight of the trip is the feeding of the farm animals.  The Little Crimsons were able to feed the rabbits, goats and guinea pigs.

And how can we forget Busty the pony. Some of the kids were able to have a turn to ride on Busty.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all our parent volunteers in assisting in the trip, making our trip fun and memorable!
